Environmental Portrait #2
What drove you to apply for a job at Salt Shack?
I knew I wanted to apply for a serving job because I have experience working at Buffalo Wild Wings back home, so I knew servers made good money. My roommate and I both wanted to find jobs for the school year, so we asked in a student Facebook group if anyone is hiring, and Salt Shack was the top answer.
What does a typical shift look like for you?
Depending on the day, I have a morning or night shift. Typically, I work night shifts, which are from around 4 PM to 10 PM. As a server my main concern is taking my tables orders and giving them the experience they want at our restaurant. I make sure to suggest good food and drinks on the menu, and definitely sell my customer service personality to get more tips.
What is your favorite part of working at Salt Shack and why?
My favorite part is my coworkers. I have made a ton of good friends during my time at Salt Shack, and we share a bond working together. Although it isn't the most glamorous job, the people I work with definitely make working more enjoyable.
What kinds of interactions do you have with customers? Positive or negative?
Most of my interactions with customers are positive. Usually they are respectful and I have no problems. Of course, I will come across a difficult customer every once in a while, as anyone that works in customer service would.
What is your least favorite part of the job and why?
My least favorite part of the job is when I have to work in the hot, Florida weather. The worst is when it is humid because I am moving around a lot, and there is no AC anywhere in the restaurant.
